On Tuesday 22nd May Sligo Grammar School TY students and their parents gathered to mark the end of the year for the TY class of 2017. At a ceremony in the school hall the students presented a review of the year. Students spoke about the activities they were involved in, including YSI, ScienceFest, Junk Kouture, Young Enterprise and Gaisce. They told their parents and families about the new skills they learnt, including public speaking and debating, forensic science, kayaking and dressmaking. Work within the community was a part of TY and students spoke about their involvement with St. Cecilias home, and Special Olympics. Fundraising has always been a huge part of TY and cheques were presented to charities including North West Hospice, the Cancer Support Centre, St Vincent de Paul and the Alzheimers Society. Students spoke on behalf of our many international pupils, who came from Germany, Spain, England, Korea and Afghanistan to experience Irish life and culture – and to improve their English, of course! Some of these students have so enjoyed their year that they are now staying on to do their Leaving Cert in SGS! Students thanked their teachers for their support and especially thanked Mr Liam Lynch for his dedicated work as TY co-ordinator. Photos can be seen HERE
