The mathematics department at SGS is committed to providing a challenging and supportive curriculum designed to enable success in school and beyond. The courses emphasise critical thinking and problem-solving skills and are designed to accommodate the needs of students with various levels of ability and interests.

Sligo Grammar School offers Mathematics at all levels and Applied Mathematics is also an option at Leaving Certificate.

In March junior students participated in the Irish Maths Teachers Association Junior Maths Competition. This competition consists of a Schools Round where multiple choice brain teasers are answered within a 40 minute period. The results then go forward to the IMTA and successful students are invited to attend a Regional Final.
SGS students used phones, i-pads and Chromebooks to participate in the competition.
Good luck to them all and hopefully we will have a couple of Regional finalists!

TY maths students were busy in the first term.

The TY mathematics students used a variety of parent functions and transformations using technology, creativity, and problem-solving skills to make Artwork with piecewise functions in Desmos.
