On Wednesday 23rd May the TY class of 2018 held their TY Awards Night in the school hall. The evening celebrated all they had accomplished during the year and was an opportunity to reminisce over the past 12 months. Students delivered short talks about some of the events of TY such as their Bonding Trip in September, the school musical, “Little Shop of Horrors”, their Ski-ing trip to Italy, The Can-Sat design competition, the Fashion Show they organised, the many fundraising drives they were involved in and their final end-of-year camping trip. During the evening the TY students presented cheques to Cancer Care Support, RNLI, Bumbelance (a special ambulance service for sick children) and Sligo Mental Health. Our foreign students spoke about their experience in Ireland and boarding in SGS. Two of the German students were even awarded the Bronze Gaisce Award which they earned during the year. The evening was ably hosted by Erin Neilsen and Darragh Creaven who also won the TY Award for their involvement in and engagement with Transition Year. Other Awards included the Chess Master Award to Juan Lyons and special commendation for his SciFest project for Callum McGrath. TY art and craft work was on show as were Business Projects and Sustainable Living projects and photographic records of the Fashion Show, School Musical and Camping and Bonding Trips. Music was supplied by Ella Bingham, Toni Furlong, Nils Kavanagh and Joshua Gordon. Slide shows and videos made by the TY students were shown as part of the presentation. The night went off very well thanks to the organisers, Darragh Creaven, Adam Egan, Craig Lawson and Fiachra Staunton. A huge thank you to Mr Liam Lynch who steered the students through the year as TY Co-ordinator. See some photos HERE
