The New Year in SGS has seen a whole-school activity project pioneered by Mr. Cradock and Ms. McDermott. Students and Staff have registered on the Strava App and are undertaking to build a regular walk or run into their daily Lockdown routine. The PE teachers are using the App to engage their students in timetabled on-line PE classes. The students log onto the App and join the Sligo Grammar School Club, and Strava monitors their activity, measuring distance walked or run and time taken. The participants – including their PE teachers – can monitor the progress of every member of the Sligo Grammar School “Club”. There are over 280 members of the SGS Club, including Staff and Students. All Secondary Schools in Co. Sligo have taken on the Strava challenge and at the moment SGS has the biggest Club membership. Friendly rivalries are emerging, as individuals vie with one another to stay in the top ten!! The top student for the week of Feb. 1st was Emmett Quinn (6th) who walked/run over 86 miles in the week, narrowly ahead of Andrew Norris (3rd) who walked/ran over 84 miles in the week. They must be exhausted! But of course the primary aim of the project is to get up and get active so, well done to every single participant for their dedication. Students can still register on the App which is free and instructions can be accessed via their PE class on Teams.
