Power to Change Project

Posted on : September 20, 2023

TY students spent Friday 8th September in ATU, where they were introduced to the Power to Change Project, which is a project that aims to restore our connection with nature and help community groups lead Climate Change in their localities. Students from Summerhill College were also in ATU and will be working alongside our students to represent the Sligo Youth Assembly on Climate Action.  Dr Yvonne Lang (ATU) is running the programme and she spoke to TYs in assembly on the previous Wednesday about the project.  Mr Pete Murtagh  (Sligo County Council) and  Ms Edel Kenny (Education Officer on the Cranmore Regeneration Project) were also present. On the visit to ATU the College Head, Úna Parsons, spoke to the students about the changes ATU have made to become more sustainable. The TYs met several lecturers and facilitators who will be guiding them through the project over the coming months. The students proposed many ideas for projects ranging from increased public transport to sports clubs supporting the learning that happens in the classroom. The next event will be hosted by Sligo County Council, and we wish the students well in this very important project.
