This year Sligo Grammar School bids a fond farewell to Mr.Doherty. In September 1985 Pat Doherty joined the staff of SGS as TG teacher and has taught here ever since. As well as working in the classroom Pat has been actively involved in the extra-curricular life of SGS. He has been a great supporter of soccer in the school, running a soccer module in TY for the last number of years and travelling with teams to competitions around Connacht. His great love, however is golf and he ran the school golfing club for years. The high point of his golfing years in SGS was 2008/09 when SGS became the only school in Ireland to win both schools Match Play and Stroke Play competitions two years running. He is a great singer and has entertained the school body at concerts for many years. In the staffroom Pat is always good for a laugh and will be sorely missed for this alone! As he leaves us this summer so also do his son Daniel and daughter Róisín who are sitting their Leaving Cert in June. Now that he will have lots of free time on his hands Pat hopes to learn to play the electric guitar. Golf, of course is also high up on the “to do” list as is his role as supporter of Sligo Rovers! He will be missed by all in SGS and we wish him all the best.
