This year we say goodbye to members of staff. Ms Elayne Mc Dermott is taking early retirement after many years in Sligo Grammar School. In the main Elayne was a teacher of PE and Geography, but for a period of time she ran the Learning Support Department in SGS. She was the person who set up The Lodge which is the centre of the SEN Department in the school, and so laid the foundations of our very successful SEN programme. However it is as a dedicated Hockey coach that she will be especially remembered by the students. Over the years she inspired the girls with a love of the game, giving her time after school to develop and build the girls’ hockey skills. She fought to boost the profile of hockey in SGS and leaves behind her a strong, successful and enthusiastic Hockey department. We wish her all the very best in her new life outside of the Grammar School. We also say goodbye to our assistants, Antonia and Silas who worked in the German Department, with Silas also becoming an essential part of the Hockey coaching team. Elena also said goodbye after a year working as an (excellent) assistant in the Art Department. We thank SEN Assistant Jacinta Feeney who also leaves us after two years working in the school. Teachers Josh Tiearney (History and SEN), Martina Butler (HE) and Nicole Brady (Spanish) are leaving us after a year in Sligo Grammar School. We wish them the best in their teaching careers. In the boarding school we say goodbye to Patrick Cody who moves on after a number of years in the boys Boarding House. To our departing staff members we wish all the luck in the world and say a huge “Thank You and good luck” to them all.
