Term’s End

Posted on : March 24, 2021

Finally we can see an end to Lockdown. All classes are due to return to school on April 12th, after the Easter holidays. Leaving Cert and fifth year students are back already and are glad to be back – most of them, at least! On-line teaching was very successful this time round, with the majority of classes delivered in “real time” and all following the normal timetable. Even practical classes continued with students producing art work, DCG Graphics and Home Cooking for HE Class. TY students continued with their classes and modules, and enjoyed a variety of on-line talks and workshops. These included a talk/workshop with funny man, Rory O’Connor, who talked about his personal mental health journey.  John Lonergan, former governor of Mountjoy Prison also spoke to the TYs and their term ends with a Stripe workshop and HR talk. TY students also competed in the BT young Scientist competition on-line in January, while some pro-active individuals did on-line courses in diverse areas such as Law, Drama and IT skills.  The rest of the school was busy too, with 5th yr Ag. Science students having a virtual talk from Donal Sheehan from the Bride Project on farming with nature, and 2nd and 3rd years completing CBAs on-line in a variety of subjects including Art, HE, History, Modern Foreign Languages and Science. The school also offered 6th Yr students the chance of sitting Mock Leaving Cert exams if they wanted to, and wishes them all the best in their Leaving Cert Oral exams during Easter.  SGS is delighted that the business of teaching and learning continued unabated  throughout the Lockdown, and is looking forward to seeing everyone back again after Easter.
