Sport plays a very important role in the life of Sligo Grammar School. The school campus boasts some of the best sports facilities in the West of Ireland. The school also uses several off-campus facilities to extend its sports programme.

Facilities on the campus include:

  • Astroturf tennis and basketball areas
  • A newly resurfaced rugby pitch
  • A full-size sports hall
  • A general-purpose hall with weight-training facilities
  • Three changing blocks incorporating shower facilities and officials changing
  • The Garavogue river borders the campus for kayaking.

Off-campus facilities regularly used by the school include:

  • 400M athletics track and field activities (IT Sligo)
  • Soccer pitch (I.T Sligo)
  • Fitness trail at Doorly Park
  • Co. Sligo Golf Club at Rosses Point;
  • Horse riding facilities at Carrowmore

With this array of facilities it is no surprise that numerous pupils are involved in sport and recreational activities. The core sport for boys in the school is Rugby while Hockey is the main sport for girls. Other activities which feature strongly are Athletics, Kayaking, Golf, Soccer and Fitness.
