Another League Final approaches for Senior Boys

Sligo Grammar School seniors’ league semi-final took place at home on Friday 21st November. An intensely awaited game for both sides. SGS’ ferocity was clear exploding out of the blocks with Reuben Galvan smashing through St. Muredach’s College defenders for the first score of the game.

Ben O’Connor kept the score board ticking over going for a perfect 6/6 conversions from the tee. Seán O’Reilly produced a moment of niftiness chipping over the top of the defenders, gathering and sliding over the line for a superb try . Aron Martin then powered through over the line from a close-range pick and go, allowing SGS some breathing room. Next to add to his name to the score sheet was Ryan Burrows with a sublime moment of intuition. A snipe round the corner went under the posts untouched. Cathal Moffatt showed pure power and strength to shove his way over the line in the second half. With yellow cards stacking up against them, the team had to push on and work even harder. Although some players at time playing out of position, Sligo Grammar School fought till the end and put one last score on the score sheet. This came from Sam Carnegie barreling over defenders to finish the game with a powerful try. The final whistle brought with it victory. The time has now come for Sligo Grammar School to take on Marist College in the Connacht League Final at Cregg’s RFC at 2pm on the 26th of November.
