During the year all 1st Year Students in SGS entered the “Comórtas Sóisearach Matamaitice Éireann”, a Junior maths competition run by the Irish Maths Teachers Association. The questions were based on many different mathematical concepts taught at Junior Cycle. The problems required abstract and critical thinking under time restrictions. Over 15,000 students entered from 216 schools across the country. Only 2 students in the country achieved maximum marks and a total of 62 students received over 80%. Sligo Grammar School student

Following a special breakfast in the dining hall the sixth years spent the first part of the morning rehearsing for the evening ceremony. Every year Damien Tansey Solicitors award two of our TY students medals for excellent Junior Cycle exam results. This year the prizewinners were Sophie Swann and Jack Kennedy. Sophie achieved the highest results in the school and was awarded the Gold Medal while Jack, following close behind, was awarded Silver. Well done to the two students and thanks to Damien Tansey Solicitors for sponsoring the awards.
Well done to Sophie Swann who has won the Royal Society of Chemistry Award at this year’s SciFest. She won the award for her project in which she did a study of microorganisms present on natural and artificial sports/playing surfaces. Sophie is a hockey player and this study was particularly interesting to her as she has played on a variety of different playing surfaces over the years. She concentrated her study on Astro Turf and natural grass pitches. She compared

Students from across all year groups were involved, along with some of their teachers. Before their performance each student introduced themselves and their act by video, saying why they chose their song. The rugby season had a fantastic ending this month with two more Connacht cups coming home to Sligo Grammar School. First the Sligo Grammar School U14 Rugby Team met Marist College, Athlone on Wednesday 19th April, in the Sportsground, Galway. After a closely fought match the SGS boys brought home the 2023 U14 Connacht League Cup. With two tries from Kelvin Kalu and one from Oisín Choo, as well as two conversions from Ollie Isherwood, SGS finally emerged as victors with
