SGS Rowing Club are into the busy summer period where senior crews are competing at regattas, individuals are trialling for the elusive ‘green jersey’ and the juniors are moving out of the training quads and into racing boats and single sculls.
This weekend the crews head to the capital where Trinity Regatta takes place on the river Liffey in the heart of Dublin. Leading the charge will be Adam Foley who is racing in the highly contested Junior 18 category. Adam will be up against a huge entry in this category including other favourites such as Ryan Totten of Coleraine Grammar School and local man Ian Duane of Blackrock College.
Adam travels to Dublin on the back of some good news from the Rowing Ireland trials. He was successful at the last competition stage and goes through to the next round for selection in the beach sprint category.
Also competing in Dublin will be Adams younger brother Ben, as well as Euan Cradock and Yann McGuinness. The boys will have to contend with side by side racing over a tight course with some challenging corners. The start line is close to Chapelizod bridge covering a distance of 1800 meters to finish at Islandbridge, close to Hueston station.
Back home on the Garavogue the junior rowers continue their Friday afternoon classes with Searlan Sibartie progressing into the training single and Liam Kenny and Aaron Ivers making a big step up into a racing double.
