Annual Carol Service

This year Thursday 15th December saw the return of the “in person” Carol Service at Sligo Grammar School. It was a treat to see Calry Church filled with students, parents, past-pupils and friends, all there to kick off the Christmas Season with the traditional SGS Service of Nine Lessons and Carols. The School choir was back in full voice, prepared by Jonathan Carter.  Sadly Jonathan couldn’t be with us on the day, so, under the joint direction of Mr Richard Mitchell and Mr. Alf Potter, the students did their Choirmaster proud, leading the congregation in singing traditional carols and treating them to lovely renditions of others, including the Carol of the Bells and a beautiful duet of Silent Night. The music students also did their part as they accompanied the choir. Lessons were read by staff and students with members of the Drama Club taking on one of the readings. The service was led by Canon Patrick Bamber with Bishop Ferran Glenfield and Rev. Canon Noel Regan, Chairman of the Board, also leading prayers. The Carol Service was a great start to the Christmas season at SGS.
