Debating Success

It’s been a successful term for SGS Debaters. On Saturday 4th March, members of the Sligo Grammar School Debate Club competed in the Connacht Schools Mace Debating Final at Galway University. The day was very successful for Ellen O’Hara and Daití Meehan who came second in the Junior Grand Final. In the Senior Grand Final Alfie Barron and Siofra McElduff were also awarded second place. All four students are now eligible to represent the school at the National Mace Debate Finals later in the term. Another Debate Club member, Alana Guckian-Walton, has been selected to represent SGS and Connacht at the 26th National Session of the European Youth Parliament, Ireland in Cork in April. Well done to all our debaters and thanks to their teacher, Zoe Hall.
