Welcoming Mr Bryan Henry as the newly appointed Deputy Principal

As Headmaster of Sligo Grammar School it is my absolute pleasure to officially introduce Mr Bryan Henry, the newly appointed Deputy Principal of Sligo Grammar School.

A former pupil, Mr Henry was a Sligo Grammar School valedictorian in 2004.  Upon graduating, Mr Henry undertook a Bachelor of Commerce at UCD, obtaining First Class Honours before progressing to undertake a Masters of Accounting at the Michael Smurfit Business School.

As an accountant, Mr Henry completed his Chartered Accountant exams and Tax Consultant exams whilst working for PWC in Dublin.

After an extremely successful career at PWC, Mr Henry took his next big career step when he decided to leave PWC to train as a teacher, qualifying with a Professional Diploma in Education and teaching in our sister school, Bandon Grammar School, Cork, and in St Pauls College Raheny, before taking up the position of teaching Business Studies, Accounting, Economics, LCVP and support classes within his alma mater, Sligo Grammar School in September 2016.

From the outset it was obvious that Mr Henry possessed a desire and aptitude for school management and in October 2021 he successfully applied for the position of AP, for Digital Framework and Policies. Over the next five years, Mr Henry transformed the technological infrastructure and supports for teaching and learning throughout Sligo Grammar School.

Mr Henry put in many hours of hard work, and was rewarded with a promotion to his Assistant Principal 1 position, followed swiftly by his appointment to Deputy Principal.

I believe Mry Henry is a great fit for Sligo Grammar School with his experience in accounts, role as secretary to Sligo Grammar School Alumni, County Sligo Farmer, a member of the Church of Ireland.  Most importantly, his friendly, approachable, quiet, unassuming yet steady, loyal and reliable, no dramas personality traits have made him a most popular choice for staff, past pupils, parents, pupils, and the wider community.

Mr Henry has made a stellar start to his new position undertaking the administrative and managerial tasks with quiet efficiency and good humour.

Bryan, I have truly enjoyed my first weeks working alongside you, within a short time of taking up you position as Deputy Headmaster of Sligo Grammar School it is apparent to all that the school is in good hands for many years to come.

Michael Hall, Headmaster
