Seachtain na Gaeilge 2019

Posted on : March 18, 2019

Just before the St Patrick’s Weekend break Sligo Grammar School ran its annual Seachtain na Gaeilge. Celebrating all things Irish, this week has become a fixture in the school . The week is organised and run by 5th year Irish students with the invaluable help of Mrs O’Donnell. Activities and events were held throughout the week and students from all years got involved. Prizes were given to winners in all competitions. In Irish classes students competed against one another in Table Quizzes as Gaeilge, while in PE classes they played Gaelic Games. Lunch time was a hive of activity for the week with a traditional music session, a concert featuring songs by Irish bands and singers, a Puc Fada contest and Bingo as Gaeilge. A Teoraíocht Taisce – Treasure Hunt – was organised for juniors and the week finished off with a Lá Glas to mark St. Patrick’s Day. Everyone, staff and students alike, wore something green to school. Funds raised from this non-uniform/green day will be given to a charity nominated by the Seachtain na Gaeilge committee. Well done to all the prizewinners and to those who organised the event.
