Special Needs Information Evening

The Parents’ Association wishes to express its gratitude to Ms Elayne McDermott Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator for hosting an Information Session forl parents. The talk covered all aspects of legislation/policy, types of special needs, how our school operates special needs policy, psychological assessments, and reasonable accommodation allowances for children.

Ms McDermott and Headmaster, Wynn Oliver stressed that Sligo Grammar aims to ensure that students with special education needs feel included in all aspects of their educational and social development. Parents of students entering the school in September 2010 were reminded of the importance of providing any relevant information and assessments to the school before September to assist the planning process.

The event was very well attended and many parents asked questions both during the session and afterwards with tea, coffee and biscuits, kindly supplied by the school. We wish to encourage any parents to feel welcome to follow up on any issues regarding the special educational needs of their children. Many thanks to the parents who attended; we hope the evening was informative and useful and we welcome all suggestions for any further events/meetings that would benefit parents and children. Please drop a note to the school if you have any thoughts.

Defibrilator

The Parents Association recently came up with an idea to raise money for a defibrilator to send with groups - like sports teams-away on trips.

They decided to have a no uniform day which the students thought was great and should happen more often. They raised a lot of money and were able to buy the defibrilator.  You can see three pupils with the chairperson of the Association and the Parent who does all the training of how to use it in the picture .

Congratulations!!!  Oh, yes - and thanks!
