The Passing of a Musical Age..

With great sadness we say "goodbye" as we wish Margo Henry, Kathleen O'Hara and Sheila Crowley every happiness in their retirement.  We thank them for their many years of dedicated teaching and for all they have done for so many pupils learning piano.  Enjoy a well earned retirement for many years to come.

Local Traditions Asia-Europe Project

The recent trip to the mummers center outside Enniskillen was very interesting for all the people who took part in the project. The trip also included a tour to the Marble Arch Caves which was also very interesting. Every body involved had a very enjoyable day.

Bajja School Built!

Last Year the School and the Sligo community raised money to build a school with The Fields of Life Project. We are delighted to say that the school is now built as well as the staff block. A team of volunteers from the school and across the Sligo community will travel this summer to paint it and to build a Football Pitch. Good Work!! 

Dissolving Boundaries Face 2 Face Meeting   

Group involved in The Dissolving Boundaries Project met with their partner school, Bloomfield Collegiate, in Derry recently.  The focus of the day was a joint study of The Plantation of Ulster.

Local Traditions Project win St. Patrick's Day Parade Schools Cup

The schools "Local Tradition Project" entered the   "Mummers" play in the St. Patrick's Day Parade. The  Mummers is an old Irish tradition held on St. Stephens  day in which a number of groups dress up as well  known historic and mythical Irish people and perform  plays for money. The school won the cup for "Best  Schools Entry". Well done to everyone involved for their hard work.

Comedy Club donate to Fields of Life

Canon Liz McElhinney recently accepted a cheque on behalf of Fields of Life from the Sligo Grammar Improvisation Crew. The money will help with the expenses for the work that the Sligo team of 24 will undertake in Bajja Community Primary School in July.

Fundraising for St. Josephs Ward

The school has been fundraising to support St Joseph's Ward, Oncology Unit, University College Hospital, Galway, in which a recent past pupil is a patient of 9 months. The ward is in need of educational resources. . Right the Headmaster, Wynn Oliver, presents a cheque to the hopsital.

Foreign Students

There are over twenty boarding pupils whose home are overseas....they live as far away as Russia and with a significant number from Germany and Spain

Science and Maths Olympiad!

Left a student who was awarded one of three gold medals at the Irish Junior Science and Maths Olympiad with his Science and Maths teachers and the Principal. He will now be jetting off to Sao Paulo, Brazil, for the international event.  Well done!

Prize Day

Prize Day was a great success with guest speaker, Tommie Gorman, of RTE, addressing the whole SGS community in the new gym.  The presentation ceremony was integrated with worship, the choir performance and speeches and was voted the most successful in years! 

Outstanding achievements rewarded were Junior Certificate Gold, Silver and Special Awards.

Asia-European Classroom Top Award!

Two Sligo Grammar teachers at the Asia-European Classroom Awards in Greece where their transnational Local Traditions project got the top award!

New Prefects

Congratulations to our new team of prefects and the Head Boy and Head Girl.  We have great confidence in their leadership and wish them well in their term of office.

Junior Certificate Results

Smiles all round as the Junior Cert of 2006 got their results!  Well done to everyone!

Major Refurbishment of the Grammar..

A great deal of building took place over the summer with major changes in the boy boarders' house.  Dorms were upgraded and the old boys prep room was renovated and is now the recreation area. 

The staff room was doubled in size and the Science Labs have been fully refurbished.

Form 1

Members of Form 1 on their first day in Sligo Grammar School.  We trust they will be really happy with us over the next 6 years.
