U-15B with their trophy!  well done!

Hockey - not only is it an enjoyable and eventful game to play but it is also challenging and refreshing.  Each school in the country which participates in hockey has a 1st XI squad. A 1st XI squad simply means the senior and most important team in the school.  Our teams also include First Year A and B hockey teams,  U-15 A, B and C teams and U-16 A, B and C teams .  Each individual team has a different target to meet and every team is involved in leagues or cups.

Sligo Grammar School’s hockey team has been growing from strength to strength during the past few years and we would like to take this opportunity to thank the girls and their coaches for all their hard work and dedication to the various teams. We hope that your spirit and love for the game will very soon win you new trophies to put on display.  This year our most successful teams were the U15 A and U-15 B.

U15-Teams have a great 2007-8 Season

The U-15 A's went undefeated and didn't concede a goal to qualify for the Connacht semi-finals as top seeds. Pitted against the Jes who they had beaten previously. The Grammar played well below their potential losing 1-0. It was a disappointing end to the season, but the squad have shown great potential and are looking forward to next year.

Meanwhile the U-15 B's rounded off a fantastic season by winning the Connacht final. Having beaten Solerno 3-0 in the semi-final it set up a local derby against the Mercy convent. Played in front of a large crowd there was very little between the teams. It finished 0-0 even after extra time and the Grammar girls managed 2-0 in penalties. This is the school's first triumph in the Sweetnam Cup which was presented to the Head the following morning during assembly.
