Our Broken Weir Kayaking Club starts each new season by electing 2 new canoe captains. The picture on the right is of this years captains.

During the last weeks of September, students take Part 1 and Part 2 of the beginners’ canoe test. This test entails capsizing their canoe, and swimming in deep water to the bank, where they empty the canoe.  In the following weeks, various practice rescues take place - for example H-Rescue and X-Rescue.

The canoe club usually canoe on the Garavogue river situated beside the school. During the season they go on several trips both up and down the river.

The Annual Liffey Descent takes place in May. Over 200 canoeists     usually take part in the competition and last year the Grammar School had the largest group with a team of 26!
